Soft Tissue & Scar Recovery

Scars may look “fine” but it’s the things we can’t see that may affect how you feel and move. If you are experiencing tightness, numbness, restriction, back pain or incontinence following surgery or trauma, our unique ‘hands-on’ therapy can work to restore and rehabilitate your body and give you back your freedom.

During soft tissue therapy appointments, the focus will be on restoring your breath to improve your whole core function; massage to support your soft tissues in returning to a pain-free and more optimal position; specific scar work; and pelvic floor and core rehab.

What to expect…

    • Upon booking, you will receive a link to a detailed pre-screening health questionnaire which gives me a much better idea of what is happening for you.

    • We’ll agree on a course of therapy which may be several sessions depending on your personal situation.

    • Use hands-on therapy to work on your abdominals, breathing accessory muscles, the scar (if appropriate), and surrounding area, and work more globally on other areas that are restricted. (It’s ALL connected).

    • Follow-on sessions may involve creating a rehab movement programme for you so please just wear comfortable unrestricted clothes for that part of the session. We always work barefoot so please do not worry about shoe choice.

    • You will be given bespoke homework to complete between treatments and I will be in contact with you during this time to support you on your journey back to health and more importantly, functionality.

  • INITIAL SESSION

    £55/ 75 Minutes

    FOLLOW UP SESSIONS

    £45/ 60 Minutes

  • Soft tissue and scar work can be taken as a stand alone therapy but can also form part of a broader recovery programme such as the Strong Like a Woman Programme.

Scars can play a big part in your journey to recovery…

Scar 101

After any surgery or trauma to tissue; the healing process begins when collagen fibres are laid down to create powerful healing bonds that aid recovery but can also lead to the formation of adhesions.  These adhesions can then create dysfunction as their strong structures can bind to nearby organs and tissues within the pelvic cavity/ around the site of the wound.

This can then cause that pulling, trapped, or dragging sensation that some ladies experience around the scar when performing certain movements or activities. Pelvic organ dysfunction, incontinence, scar pain, back pain, poor sensation/numbness, and a sense of restriction after abdominal surgery can also be the result.

During soft tissue therapy appointments, the focus will be on restoring your breath to improve your whole core function; massage to support your soft tissues in returning to a pain free and more optimal position; specific scar work; and pelvic floor and core rehab.
